Judges elected by Poland's current parliament suspended Constitutional Tribunal president Bogdan Swieczkowski, who was appointed under the previous Law and Justice (PiS) government, and his deputy, and declared Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska acting head on Oct. 30, Reuters reported on Oct. 31. President Karol Nawrocki , who is aligned with the PiS, confronted the judges at the court overnight amid protests outside the building, and called the move a forcible takeover of a constitutional body, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended the action as necessary to restore rule of law to a body that has been controversially dominated by the PiS for over a decade.
