U.S. majority-owned startup DTEC Mineral and Metal Technology plans to invest $600 million in a Malaysian rare earth refinery within three years, with initial capacity to process 5,000 metric tons of material annually, Bloomberg reported on Oct. 30. The company ultimately aims to double capacity through a second facility and is preparing a 30-metric-ton research shipment to the United States after becoming the first company granted export permission under Malaysia's recently eased rules.
