Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lo warned on Oct. 25 that the government could invoke constitutional powers to overcome a parliamentary deadlock after the ruling Patriots of Senegal party, or PASTEF, rejected the 2026 revised finance law in committee, urging the party to propose amendments before the Oct. 27 plenary vote, Bloomberg reported on Oct. 26. The revised budget aims to address mounting fiscal pressures and manage high public debt while advancing fiscal reforms, lowering projected GDP growth for 2026 to 2.7% from about 5% and raising the projected fiscal deficit to 7.6% of GDP from 5.4%, partly due to increased energy subsidies and lower-than-expected revenue.
