A Pakistani intelligence official, a former Pakistani national security official and a senior member of an Afghan anti-Taliban resistance group said Pakistan's military and intelligence services had met with anti-Taliban resistance forces in recent months "to offer potential support," The New York Times reported on Oct. 22. Much remains unclear about the alleged meetings, including whether Pakistan formally offered support or merely opened discussions to consider future assistance, what support Pakistan could provide, which anti-Taliban resistance groups have participated in the discussions, and the extent to which anti-Taliban groups are willing to work with Pakistan.
