The European Commission presented the bloc's new Arctic strategy on Oct. 20, the first update since 2021. The document pledges, among other things, a maritime security hub to share information among member states and partners, an Arctic cable hub with NATO to monitor and repair subsea cables, wider Copernicus satellite coverage, support for member states' icebreaker purchases and a 2027 pilot project to track Russian shadow fleet vessels, without funding figures attached.
