Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila (2001-18) was named president of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation, or FRN, a new political-military coalition that aims to challenge President Felix Tshisekedi's government and restore state institutions, including through the use of force, Jeune Afrique reported on Oct. 12. The FRN replaces the Alliance for the Congo River, or AFC, which is associated with the Rwanda-backed M23 rebellion , and leaders of both latter groups will assume key political and military positions in the new coalition.
