Government forces, primarily the Ethiopian National Defense Force and the Tigray Peace Force, reportedly took control of Idaga Hamus, where Eritrean troops had been seen moving with heavy artillery, and are expected to advance into Adigrat, around 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Eritrean border, where Eritrean forces were also reported to have arrived, according to ACLED on Oct. 9. Amid these developments, Ethiopia accused Eritrea of an "all-out invasion" in an Oct. 8 letter to the U.N. Security Council, claiming that Eritrean troops, including mechanized units, had advanced up to 60 kilometers into northern Ethiopia and asserting its right to self-defense.
