Lithuania's parliament voted 106-18 to advance a constitutional amendment removing the ban on weapons of mass destruction and foreign military bases, with a final vote requiring 94 of 141 votes scheduled for Jan. 12, 2027, LRT reported on Oct. 6. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius said the same day that Lithuania would cover the cost of a permanent U.S. base after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Oct. 5 that Washington would consider the request.
