Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said his administration would work toward ensuring that Ethiopia plays a greater role in determining regional affairs as part of plans to build a new "Ethiopian civilization" anchored in "firm multinational unity" during his inauguration speech for a new five-year term, Addis Standard reported on Oct. 5. Abiy stressed that ensuring Ethiopia's strategic autonomy and strengthening its military capabilities in "all domains" would be core objectives of his administration, including by establishing "air superiority" in the region, before adding that his government would "work diligently [...] to ensure Ethiopia has an entry and exit port."
