Eritrea announced it would sever all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia after the Ethiopian government said it would close its embassy in Asmara and expel 10 Eritrean diplomats, Reuters reported on Oct. 2. Meanwhile, commander of the pro-government Tigray Peace Forces, or TPF, Brig. Gen. Gebreegziabher Beyene said, "We might soon control all of Tigray," following fresh battlefield advances, stressing that the TPF would not seek revenge against civilians or Tigrayan security forces personnel fighting alongside the rebel Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF. The TPF subsequently claimed on Oct. 2 the capture of the town of Milazat, located 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) by road from Tigray's regional capital Mekele.
