The National Transmission Company South Africa, or NTCSA, a subsidiary of state-owned South African utilities company Eskom, confirmed that the South African Wholesale Electricity Market , or SAWEM, would launch in April 2027, rather than in September 2026 as previously planned, Engineering News reported on Sept. 30. NTCSA General Manager for Energy Market Services Andrew Etzinger made the announcement when noting that the company was in the process of creating a market-surveillance capacity.
