Nigeria and the United States signed a framework agreement in New York on Sept. 23, on the sidelines of the 81st U.N. General Assembly, to deepen U.S. investment in Nigeria's mining sector, Reuters reported on Sept. 24. The agreement was signed by Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, and it covers cooperation on geological data and exploration, mineral development and processing, mining-related infrastructure, and technical capacity building.
