Leaders of India's Cockroach Janta Party youth group threatened to launch renewed nationwide protests should Gyanesh Kumar, the chief of India's three-member Election Commission, fail to resign within 48 hours, while the opposition Indian National Congress party announced it would conduct Sept. 25 protest marches to state election offices, Reuters reported on Sept. 24. The groups announced their plans after The Indian Express newspaper reported on Sept. 23 that the other two members of the country's Election Commission raised formal objections with Kumar at least 14 times over 10 months, mostly surrounding the commission's contentious revision of voter rolls, which began in June 2025.
