British Prime Minister Andy Burnham held a phone call with his Mauritian counterpart Navin Ramgoolam during which he stressed his commitment to "working with Mauritius and the United States" in securing "the operations" of the joint British-U.S. base on Diego Garcia island, located in the Chagos Archipelago, the British government announced on Sept. 21. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, Burnham said he would "work towards a resolution" with Mauritius on the matter, while acknowledging that an agreement had yet to be reached.
