The Bank of Japan raised its policy rate from 1% to 1.25%, Reuters reported on Sept. 18. BoJ Gov. Kazuo Ueda said the bank's "policy phase has changed" from adjusting policies to reach a 2% inflation target to protecting against overshooting 2%, adding he could not rule out consecutive rate hikes or a larger hike of 0.5%.
