Key Turkish presidential advisor Mehmet Ucum said in an interview with private Turkish media that if 360 Turkish lawmakers backed an early election, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would run for a third term, AFP reported on Sept. 17. The ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, stopped short of an explicit call for early elections, though Ucum said that if such a vote took place, the party would aim for an April 2028 vote.
