In an essay published Sept. 12, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for artificial intelligence companies to "slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models," and SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google DeepMind head Demis Hassabis all voiced their agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump , Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and House Speaker Mike Johnson rejected Amodei's proposal, arguing that slowing U.S. advancement in AI would risk yielding technological leadership to China.
