The United Arab Emirates called on the U.N. Security Council to expand its arms embargo on Sudan to the entire country and all parties, The National reported on Sept. 12. This comes after the Security Council adopted a U.S.-drafted resolution on Sept. 11 extending the current arms embargo for one month through Oct. 9, with U.S. officials now pressing for a nationwide arms embargo and stressing that a long-term extension of the current embargo was "not an option."
