Cybersecurity researchers at Calif Research used AI to develop a zero-click worm capable of spreading via WeChat calls across Android and iOS, The New York Times reported Sept. 8. The computer worm, dubbed "WeWorm," compromises accounts without requiring the victim to answer the call, then automatically calls friends to propagate further. After finding the vulnerability with the help of AI, the researchers reportedly wrote the first remote code execution exploit in two days; it then took another week to build the worm. Tencent, the Chinese parent company of WeChat, has since issued updates to counter the exploit.
