Following media reports that the South Korean government was considering submitting a proposal to the legislature to deploy military forces in the Strait of Hormuz, the presidential office said that a review of the matter was underway and that no final decision had been made yet, Yonhap News Agency reported on Sept. 4. An anonymous official told Yonhap that the government thinks it "may be able to (make a contribution)" in keeping with local laws that "does not compromise our readiness posture" on the Korean Peninsula , adding that a deployment could involve either combat or noncombat troops.
