Equatoguinean authorities said they foiled a coup plot organized by the opposition Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy, or CORED, with investigations into the plot still ongoing, Jeune Afrique reported on Sept. 4. According to the news outlet, Russian intelligence services informed Equatorial Guinea of a suspicious inbound cargo shipment, which the Equatoguinean police said held weapons after seizing it on June 25 or 26, with authorities thereafter arresting several figures linked to CORED.
