Argentine President Javier Milei on Sept. 3 announced plans to introduce legislation that would broaden sanctions against companies, shareholders, directors, contractors and suppliers involved in what Argentina considers unauthorized activity in the Falkland Islands and surrounding waters, directly targeting the planned Sea Lion oil development led by British and Israeli companies, La Nacion reported the next day. Milei also announced plans to strengthen Argentina's military presence in the South Atlantic through additional funding for an integrated naval base in Tierra del Fuego.
