Nepalese authorities said the Aug. 26 flash floods along the Nepal-China border, which have been tentatively linked to a glacial collapse, have killed at least 359 people and left more than 1,400 others missing, including some 517 foreign nationals, Bloomberg reported on Aug. 27. Nepal's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority added the floods damaged or destroyed around 80 bridges and 25 miles (40 kilometers) of paved roadways, while the energy ministry said it may request electricity from India due to consequent damage to hydropower, which has reduced generation capacity by around 8%.
