Uganda's army chief and President Yoweri Museveni's son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, declared on Aug. 25 in a series of posts on X that he would run for president in 2031 and said he expected to win 90% of the vote with Museveni's support, Bloomberg reported on the same day. Meanwhile, Kainerugaba's renewed feud with brother-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo, who has built his own political and economic influence within the ruling establishment, escalated on Aug. 25 when Kainerugaba declared Rwabwogo's Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development illegal and threatened to arrest its members; Rwabwogo's aide, Matthew Bagonza, was detained, though his charges have not been publicly disclosed.
