Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for Nigeria's African Democratic Congress party, or ADC, said he would "restore" fuel subsidies removed by President Bola Tinubu should he win Nigeria's January 2027 general election , the Daily Trust reported on Aug. 21. Atiku stressed that he would set up a new "targeted" system that provides Nigerian refiners with crude oil at below-market prices, with refiners mandated to showcase that the crude is refined domestically and the total expenditure of subsidy funding "determine[d]...before we subsidise."
