President Paul Biya returned to Cameroon on Aug. 20 after spending 74 days in Geneva, Switzerland, arriving at Nsimalen International Airport with his wife, Chantal Biya, and receiving a welcome from supporters of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, Reuters reported Aug. 20. The 93-year-old president's prolonged absence had prompted opposition figures to call on the Constitutional Council to consider whether an interim leader was needed, but the council took no action.
