South Korea and the United States said the ongoing Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercise will end on Aug. 21 instead of the originally scheduled Aug. 27, cutting it from 11 to five days and eliminating its planned second phase of counterattack drills, with some field exercises also canceled or converted into simulations, AP reported on Aug. 19. The remaining training will still cover the initial defensive phase.
