Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in an interview that Taiwan is "part of China, period" and compared possible Chinese military action to Malaysia preventing one of its own states from seceding, Bloomberg reported on Aug. 19. China praised the remarks, but Taiwan warned that Anwar's support for Beijing could weaken Taiwanese companies' confidence in Malaysia, where companies including Foxconn and semiconductor manufacturer ASE Technology have invested.
