U.S. special envoy Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and although details of the meeting were not immediately clear, they were set to discuss regional developments, including the Iran and Gaza wars, NBC reported on Aug. 17. A day earlier, Kushner met with Hamas chief Khalil al-Hayya in Cairo, Egypt, marking the first time a high-level U.S. official has met with Hamas leadership since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza in 2023.
