Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella requested on Aug. 15 that U.S. President Donald Trump consider temporarily suspending tariffs on Colombian goods following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the country on Aug. 10, according to a post on X he made after a phone call between the two. U.S. duties on several Colombian goods rose from 10% to 12.5% in late July.
