Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, claimed to have recaptured the strategic border town of Kurmuk from the Sudanese Armed Forces, or SAF, Sudan Tribune reported on Aug. 13. Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the SAF had abandoned its defensive position in the town, which is located in the southeastern Blue Nile state along the border with Ethiopia, following long-range drone strikes launched from Ethiopian territory.
