Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the 15-point Israel-Hamas peace plan backed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Aug. 9, the highest-level comments by the Israeli government on the matter since the ceasefire was implemented at the end of 2025, BBC reported on Aug. 9. Netanyahu said Israel would not abide by the agreement unless Hamas fully disarmed first, though reports also indicated that Israel was stepping back from its aggressive airstrike campaign in Gaza as the United States prepared to implement the first part of the deal with an international stabilization force in Israeli-controlled territory.
