A spokesperson for Yemen's Houthi rebels threatened to close off "all access routes" for Saudi oil exports by increasingly targeting vessels in the northern Red Sea, The New York Times reported on Aug. 5. The announcement came the same day that the Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi oil tanker near Yanbu port.
