German police found a drone carrying an explosive device on the tarmac at Leipzig/Halle airport shortly before midnight on Aug. 4, beside an Antonov Airlines cargo aircraft, Bild reported Aug. 5. A DHL cargo plane that aborted its landing during the resulting flight suspension then struck an unidentified object at 400 meters, landing at Hanover with minor damage to its nose, while several other flights diverted. German authorities are treating the incident internally as an attempted attack, with the target appearing deliberate given that four Ukrainian aircraft stood nearby; Leipzig also serves as Germany's principal air corridor to Ukraine and a transit point for German and allied military goods.
