French Pacific territory New Caledonia's Congress elected a government with six members from a pact between centrist and pro-France parties and five independence supporters, Radio New Zealand reported on July 31. The government then selected a centrist president and pro-France vice president, giving both top executive posts to the governing coalition instead of continuing the usual practice of dividing them between pro-France and independence camps.
