Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said the ministry had convened a meeting to discuss Taiwan's response options to Papua New Guinea's potential closure of a Taiwan trade office, the Taipei Times reported on July 19. Lin said these options include reviewing Taiwan's annual purchases of 1.2 million tons of Papua New Guinea's liquefied natural gas, which he said account for a third of Papua New Guinea's LNG exports.

This comes after Papua New Guinea's Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko announced on July 15 that the country would close the Chinese Taipei Trade Office in line with 50 years of diplomatic ties with China and of the "One China" policy.
