U.S. President Donald Trump notified lawmakers on July 10 that the United States had started military operations against Iran, Politico reported on July 13, while U.S.-Iran clashes continued on July 14. Meanwhile, in a July 14 Truth Social post, Trump walked back his June 13 proposal to impose fees on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that in place of these fees, Gulf countries would sign major trade and investment deals with the United States.

Trump's congressional notification came the same day that Trump said the ceasefire was "over." According to the leader of the Iranian parliament's National Security Committee, Iran has formally introduced a bill to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, though its details remain unclear.
