Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced he would replace Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and overhaul his Cabinet as part of an updated political strategy, with Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi emerging as the frontrunner to succeed her, the Financial Times reported on July 12.
Svyrydenko was appointed prime minister in July 2025 as part of a government assembled under then-presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak following a corruption scandal, which implicated several figures close to Zelensky. Svyrydenko is reportedly expected to become Ukraine's ambassador to the United States after the current envoy, Olha Stefanishyna, asked to step down. Stefanishyna is under investigation over allegations that her family purchased a Kyiv apartment at well below market value, which she denies.
