The ruling and opposition parties in Japan's lower house of the Diet agreed to put the issue of amending the Imperial Household Law to a plenary vote on July 10, breaking a two-week impasse in both houses of the Diet, Kyodo News reported on July 8. The same day, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's diet leadership announced that the LDP would abandon a bill to reduce Diet seats, pursue a bill to make Osaka a secondary political capital and resume working-level talks on a food consumption tax cut on July 13.

As part of her effort to resolve the Diet stand-off, Takaichi has also agreed to attend an upcoming Budget Committee meeting, where the opposition will question her about a scandal tied to the October 2025 election.
