Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed accused Sudan's internationally recognized government, Eritrea and the Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF, of collaborating against Ethiopia with the support of unnamed external forces — most likely Egypt — in his first parliamentary address since his party's victory in the June 1 general election, Addis Standard reported on July 7. Abiy also said his Prosperity Party had submitted proposals to add a two-term limit for the position of prime minister to the country's constitution in an upcoming national dialogue.

Ethiopia's current constitution does not impose term limits on the prime minister. Abiy's Prosperity Party won 438 of the lower house's 547 seats in Ethiopia's June 1 elections. Sixty-one seats remain vacant because voting did not take place in significant parts of the country, most notably the Tigray region, which is largely controlled by the TPLF. Abiy already laid out proposals to limit prime ministerial terms in May.
