After Typhoon Maysak killed dozens of people in China's Gansu and Hubei provinces the week of July 6, Typhoon Bavi — expected to be upgraded to a super typhoon — will make landfall in China on July 11, Reuters reported on July 8. Authorities in the industrial hubs of Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, and the business hub of Shanghai, have already issued urgent preparation warnings, and the government of the tech hub of Hangzhou has ordered all departments to prepare for the worst.

Typhoon Bavi is expected to veer northward up China's populated coastline after making landfall in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, but may weaken before it hits the political capital of Beijing. China's National Climate Center is projecting up to six typhoons in July, up from the average of 3.8, with three expected to make landfall, up from the average of 1.8. All are expected to be above average strength.
