The Palestinian militant group Hamas dissolved its administrative body responsible for governing the Gaza Strip in order to enable the technocratic, U.S.-backed National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to take control, AP reported on July 6. However, Hamas did not reference any efforts to disarm or hand over security of the strip to an international security force.
A Hamas delegation met in Egypt to discuss advancing the ceasefire in June, and the Board of Peace convened in Cyprus on June 30-July 1, though the latter did not result in major progress. Israel has prevented NCAG members from entering the Gaza Strip, stranding them in Cairo, Egypt. Israel has gradually expanded its control in the strip beyond the yellow line, which roughly divided the strip in half, and by late June, Israel controlled around 70% of the territory.
