Raul Guillermo Rodriguez Castro, the grandson of former Cuban President Raul Castro, said he was open to negotiating with the United States and would be willing to negotiate with U.S. President Donald Trump himself, according to an interview with USA Today published on July 6. He also said Cuba was willing to release "people deemed political prisoners" and discussed efforts by the Cuban government to implement reforms sought by the Trump administration.

The United States has imposed sanctions against and indicted multiple high-ranking Cuban officials in recent weeks, including former President Raul Castro; however, the measures have not targeted Rodriguez Castro. Rodriguez Castro has been involved in U.S.-Cuba negotiations throughout 2026, as the United States has prevented fuel shipments to the country to pressure the government to make economic and political concessions.
