The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has begun experimental trials of two treatments for Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus with support from the World Health Organization, Bloomberg reported on July 6. Treatments tested are U.S. pharmaceutical company Mapp Biopharmaceutical's monoclonal antibody cocktail MBP134 and its U.S. counterpart Gilead Sciences' antiviral remdesivir.
The trials come as the total number of Ebola cases caused by the Bundibugyo virus exceeds 1,500 as of July 4, with the outbreak having resulted in more than 500 fatalities.
