On July 6-7, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative will hear arguments against a proposed 25% tariff on Brazilian goods as the final step of an ongoing Section 301 investigation, Veja reported on July 6. The Brazilian government will not send a representative to the event, but presidential hopeful Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro will attend.
The hearings are the final step in the USTR's Section 301 investigation against Brazil, which was launched in July 2025 when U.S. President Donald Trump announced 50% duties on Brazilian products. They will consist of 14 panels, during which multiple Brazilian private sector associations and large companies will present arguments against duties. The USTR has proposed a 25% tariff on many Brazilian goods from July as punishment for "unreasonable" trade practices. Bolsonaro met Trump at the White House on May 26.
