Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) referred two controversial bills to committee in the lower house, despite abstention by opposition parties, Jiji reported July 2. The two bills would designate Osaka as a secondary political capital and reduce Diet seats by 10%, with smaller parties losing relatively more seats.
The LDP promised coalition partner Japan Innovation Party in October that it would pass these two bills. In late June, Takaichi told Japan Innovation Party (JIP) leadership that she planned to fulfill that promise in the current Diet session.
