Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia may import fuel if Moscow reaches supply agreements at acceptable prices, calling imports another step toward stabilizing the domestic market and reducing panic demand, TASS reported June 30.
Russia has moved to stabilize the market through tax changes supporting fuel imports, tighter export restrictions and lower quality gasoline and diesel. Russia's realistic import options are limited to nearby or politically friendly suppliers such as Kazakhstan and Belarus, as well as smaller seaborne cargoes from Asia, but these routes are unlikely to fully replace lost refining output.
