After a two-seater, private airplane crashed into CITIC Tower, Beijing's tallest skyscraper, on June 26, Financial Times sources claim that flights at recreational airports nationwide, along with all drone flights, were steadily grounded over June 27-28, with only commercial cargo and passenger flights allowed. On June 29, prominent dissident Li Laoshi shared a photo on X of a poster at the entrance of the Beijing Air China flight training base denouncing President Xi Jinping for ten major crimes, though Li's post was later removed for unknown reasons.

Beijing has become increasingly securitized, with authorities in May banning the purchase and flight of all drones in the capital city. China has also seen a growing number of violent incidents — including mostly stabbings and car rammings — committed by economically or socially aggrieved citizens.
