Argentine President Javier Milei appointed Interior Minister Diego Santilli as the new chief of cabinet after the resignation of Manuel Adorni, who is under investigation over alleged illicit enrichment, La Nacion reported June 28.
Adorni, one of Milei's closest allies, resigned on June 27 following reports that his expenses did not match his income as a public servant. Adorni had been a key figure in the Milei administration since it took office in December 2023, initially serving as spokesperson before being promoted to cabinet chief in November 2025. The scandal has severely impacted Milei's popularity, with his approval rating falling from 53% in 2025 to 39% by May. This, combined with intensifying legislative pressure for greater accountability, has effectively stalled Milei's reform agenda.
