Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement that calls for the Israel Defense Forces' withdrawal from two locations in Lebanon, one north of the Litani River and one south of it, Axios reported on June 26. The Lebanese army is set to deploy to the locations upon Israeli withdrawal to prevent the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah from re-entrenching.

The agreement comes after the fifth round of direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. Despite the April 17 Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah have continued to exchange fire. The United States has pressured Israel to curb its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon amid ongoing efforts to preserve and progress the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, which entered into force on June 17.
